Nan Sant Refijye Ayisyen nan Miyami, komite jesyon an (pi fò ladan yo se meriken yo ye) eseye wete direktè sant lan, Pè Gérard Jean-Juste. Refijye yo òganize tèt yo epi Jean-Juste vin tounen nan plas li, men komite jesyon an kwape finansman sant lan. Kidonk manm dyaspora ayisyen gendwa blije ede yo. Miyami anonse vil la p ap prann refijye ankò, kidonk Depatman Leta Etazini pwopoze yon plan pou reyenstale refijye nan tout peyi a. Lè Ayisyèn opoze plan reyestalasyon sa a, paske daprè yo se yon taktik pou kraze popilasyon refijye a pakanpak pou yo vin pi fèb, pou yo p ap ka òganize tèt yo.
L’Heure Haïtienne reports from Peninsula Hospital in Salisbury, Maryland, where a woman named Rosemonde Joseph is paralyzed from the legs down after giving birth in the dirt at the farmworker labor camp where she lives. Joseph and her husband describe what happened. They left Haiti because there was no work there. Her husband first came to Miami, and was then taken to the Carolinas and later Maryland. Each time, he was promised work, but work is very sporadic, the living conditions are poor and unsanitary, and they are living in conditions similar to slavery. According to the L’Heure Haïtienne host, this kind of repression is the farmowners’ tactic to keep their immigrant workforce powerless and docile so they don’t organize. At the Haitian Refugee Center in Miami, the steering committee (largely made up of Americans) attempted to remove director Father Gérard Jean-Juste. The refugees organized themselves and Jean-Juste was reinstalled, but the steering committee cut the center’s funding, so the broader Haitian diaspora community may have to step in to help. Miami has announced that the city will not take more refugees, so the US State Department is proposing a resettlement plan across the country. L’Heure Haïtienne opposes the resettlement plan, as it is an effort to disperse and weaken the refugee population so they won’t be able to organize.
