- Dominique, Jean L. (Jean Leopold)
- Date:
- August 18, 1990
- Description:
-
Editoryal Jean Dominique aprè vizit vis-prezidan ameriken Dan Quayle an Ayiti, kote Quayle te avèti yon gwoup militè ayisyen ke Etazini pa ta sipòte "okenn koudeta, okenn asasina, okenn menas" ("no coup, no murders, no threats") epi Ayiti dwe gen "eleksyon lib ak jis" pito.
Jean Dominique's editorial following the visit of US vice-president Dan Quayle, during which he warned Haitian military officers that the US would tolerate "no coup, no murders, no threats" and that Haiti should instead have "free and fair elections." Meanwhile, the US claims to have no strategic interest in Haiti. Dominique dissects Quayle's statement, and analyzes the evolving discourse and strategy of US imperialism (reminding listeners that the FAdH itself was created by the US Marines, and that the US had silently protected and supported William Régala and other military officers that violently destroyed Haiti's democratic elections in 1987).
