Description:
Abstract:
MRDS contains variable-length records of metallic and
nonmetallic mineral resources of the world. A record
contains descriptive information about mineral deposits and
mineral commodities. The types of information in the data
base include deposit name, location, commodity, deposit
description, geologic characteristics, production,
reserves, potential resources, and references. The Mineral
Resource Data System master database is not accessible via
the WWW. The large number of multi-valued fields make it
difficult to import all the fields into a data format that
can be utilized by the ArcView Internet Map Server
Software. This dataset contains all MRDS locations, but
only 44 of the possible 226 fields. A data structure was
created in Access 97. Data was imported into the file
structure and then processed into Arc View, where it was
transformed into shape files that are used by the IMS
software to serve the MRDS data and permit access via the www.
Purpose:
To make Mineral Resource Data System data available via the
World Wide Web for use in future spacial analysis by a
variety of users.

DATA_QUALITY_INFORMATION
Attribute_Accuracy:
Attribute_Accuracy_Report:
The data came from many different sources and there has
been no consistent program to verify the accuracy of the information.
Logical_Consistency_Report:
Because the data come from multiple sources, terminology
varies and similar characteristics may be described differently.
Completeness_Report:
Although the dataset is global in extent, coverage varies
from country to country and state to state because the data
collection was contingent upon
formal scientific collaboration or research programs being
established by USGS in those areas.
Positional_Accuracy:
Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy:
Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Report:
Positional accuracy is variable among records in the
database because the data came from multiple sources and no
consistent program has been implemented to verify the
accuracy of the positional information.

ENTITY_AND_ATTRIBUTE_INFORMATION
Overview_Description:
Entity_and_Attribute_Overview:
Some of the original MRDS field names were changed in order
to display properly in Arc View. The following listing
shows the MRDS field name followed by the new name given in
ArcView for the Spatial Data Delivery Project. Note: Two
new fields were added to the ArcView shape file: Long_dec &
Lat_dec (These fields are the Latitude & Longitude in
Decimal Degrees derived from the MRDS Latitude and
Longitude DMS fields). Note: To obtain more detailed
information regarding the MRDS master database and the
field attributes go to the following URL: HTTP://minerals.usgs.gov/sddp/mrds/mrdsmeta.html>
