| - | Because I was the only interpreter for Oigers, | 0:01 |
| the only translator for Oigers, | 0:04 | |
| so I have the whole story, like what the detainees said | 0:06 | |
| and what happened next. | 0:11 | |
| One thing that really bothered me was | 0:13 | |
| they were only looking for certain words | 0:18 | |
| during the interrogation. | 0:22 | |
| And then they will take the detainees words out of context | 0:24 | |
| and put together different versions of the interrogation. | 0:30 | |
| Your interrogator just sits there and they say nothing | 0:36 | |
| and then when he hears "Arab," when he hears "Taliban," | 0:40 | |
| he just jumps in and say, "Oh, was there Arabs?" | 0:43 | |
| And then he just quickly writes something down | 0:46 | |
| without know what the question was at the beginning | 0:48 | |
| and what was the end. | 0:50 | |
| And it's not accurate here. | 0:52 | |
| And then the next interrogator comes in with this record, | 0:54 | |
| they will ask questions like, "oh, you were up on Otura Bura | 0:58 | |
| with Arabs and talked to this Arab. | 1:02 | |
| What did he say to you?" | 1:05 | |
| And the detainee will say, "no, I was not there with Arabs. | 1:07 | |
| I never talked to any Arabs." | 1:11 | |
| And then he will look at me like, | 1:13 | |
| "you translate it," you know? | 1:14 | |
| Did you translate wrong? I didn't say this. | 1:16 | |
| And then I will tell the interrogator, | 1:18 | |
| "Where did you get this because I was translating | 1:21 | |
| and he never said something like this." | 1:24 | |
| And then he will say, "here, this is what | 1:27 | |
| the interrogator record says. | 1:28 | |
| This is what the other interrogator wrote." | 1:30 | |
| When this kind of thing kept happening, | 1:33 | |
| what really bothered me was one time | 1:36 | |
| when FBI agents slept through the interrogation. | 1:37 | |
| For 2 and a half hours he slept. | 1:40 | |
| When we were going over the interrogation | 1:42 | |
| he said that he did scuba diving all night | 1:44 | |
| and he was really tired. | 1:47 | |
| And when we got there, | 1:49 | |
| we were in with 2 DOD interrogators and 1 FBI agent, | 1:50 | |
| and then the DOD interrogator was asking questions, | 1:54 | |
| and then I heard sort of, not snoring but heavy breathing. | 1:57 | |
| And I looked and he's sleeping there on the chair. | 2:02 | |
| And I looked at the DOD interrogator and am like, | 2:05 | |
| "he's sleeping." And he says, | 2:08 | |
| "leave him alone, let him sleep." | 2:10 | |
| Because they didn't want him to asks questions or interrupt | 2:12 | |
| so he just went on with his questions. | 2:13 | |
| But I kept thinking, | 2:16 | |
| "okay, so we are here for 2 and a half hours, | 2:17 | |
| he slept for 2 hours. | 2:21 | |
| What is he going to write in his report | 2:24 | |
| from this interrogation? | 2:26 | |
| Because he didn't hear anything." | 2:28 |
