- | The lack of results, especially, | 0:00 |
like I said, on, you know, the more difficult teams | 0:03
like Saudi and Yemeni teams, or the, | 0:05
the Gulf Arab state teams, | 0:08
the results as far as on the reporting side | 0:11
were minuscule compared to what, you know, | 0:14
people who were working the Pakistani and Afghan prisoners. | 0:17
Those were much more cooperative, | 0:23
at least as far as being able | 0:25
to give some basic information. | 0:26
So the frustration was more evident, that I saw. | 0:29
And when people were frustrated instead of looking inwardly | 0:34
and saying, well what can I do | 0:37
to become a better interrogator? | 0:38
It was mostly, well, what can we do | 0:40
to the detainees to get them to talk? | 0:41
And this is where you start getting leadership | 0:44
who, because of their ignorance and their arrogance, | 0:46
this deadly combination that I've spoken about before, | 0:49
where they don't know what to do, | 0:53
but they're in a position of authority, | 0:55
so they're too arrogant to listen | 0:57
to other people who maybe do know what to do. | 0:58
They start making the calls and the judgment calls | 1:01
on, well, instead of focusing on | 1:04
making better interrogators or providing | 1:07
the interrogators with the adequate supplies and tools, | 1:09
knowledge requirements that they need, | 1:12
we're going to focus on how far can we push | 1:14
the limit on the detainees? | 1:16
How far can we push them, as far as coercion, | 1:18
as far as mental or physical coercion. | 1:22
And this is where you start getting people talking | 1:24
about the gray area, which really never should | 1:27
have been spoken about because a good interrogator | 1:31
never needs to go into what we call the gray area. | 1:33 |
