	Bound, his eyes were covered.	0:09
	His ankles and wrists were bound and he was tied	0:12
	to a stretcher in the desert in the winter in Afghanistan	0:16
	and photographed like that, that photograph appeared	0:21
	in every newspaper in the United States.	0:23
	And when I first saw that photograph	0:26
	I still feel shocked by it.	0:28
	I can't believe that a person was put	0:30
	through that by American troops.	0:33
	It just shocks me.	0:34
	And it is my son, of course.	0:36
	But when I saw that photograph, I thought	0:38
	to myself that people in America will not tolerate this.	0:40
	People will rise up and demand	0:45
	that this boy be released from prison.	0:48
	That's what I thought.	0:50
	I thought people in America will never tolerate this kind	0:51
	of horrible human rights abuse of one	0:54
	of our own citizens and our own people by our military.	0:56
	And what I find discouraging	1:02
	or what's the word, really kind of unbelievable is	1:06
	that that didn't happen.	1:10
	That, even though that photograph	1:12
	it appeared in literally every newspaper	1:13
	and every news magazine in the United States	1:15
	there's not a ripple of objection to that treatment	1:17
	of my son from any minister or priest or imam or rabbi	1:22
	or civil rights leader or politician or ordinary people.	1:29
	It was just accepted	1:33
	that that's the way we treat terrorists suspects.	1:34
	And I find that really deeply troubling	1:39
	that everyone in America, from the most powerful people	1:41
	down to the ordinary people seems to have accepted	1:46
	that that's an acceptable way to treat a human being	1:49
	when they're suspected of any sort of terrorism involvement.	1:52
	I think that's really troubling.	1:56
