| - | Having worked for both parties | 0:02 |
| on the Hill an executive branch there | 0:04 | |
| everybody wants to protect the country. | 0:07 | |
| It's just how you get there. | 0:09 | |
| But everybody's operating in good faith. | 0:11 | |
| I do think the United States has the legal authority | 0:14 | |
| to detain people indefinitely, | 0:17 | |
| with due process. | 0:20 | |
| If they have lawyers | 0:21 | |
| and it's not a legal black hole | 0:23 | |
| that their status is reviewed. | 0:27 | |
| But I think when you look at | 0:30 | |
| all the issues, | 0:32 | |
| the cost, | 0:33 | |
| the international communities, | 0:35 | |
| questions about Gitmo, | 0:37 | |
| the recruiting tool | 0:39 | |
| in President Obama's statement | 0:40 | |
| that we can do better as a country. | 0:43 | |
| The costs of Gitmo outweigh the benefits of Gitmo. | 0:46 | |
| You know you can detain people, | 0:49 | |
| Gitmo keep 'em off the battlefield. | 0:50 | |
| But I personally think it's killing us | 0:52 | |
| in the international community. | 0:53 | |
| It's radicalizing people. | 0:55 | |
| And most of the military General Dempsey said | 0:57 | |
| Gitmo was hurting us, | 1:00 | |
| General Petraeus said, Gitmo was hurting us. | 1:01 | |
| You know, every secretary of state, | 1:04 | |
| every secretary of defense. | 1:06 | |
| There are arguments on both sides but, | 1:08 | |
| most of the people in the Bush Administration, | 1:10 | |
| including the President, | 1:13 | |
| came to the conclusion that it's hurting us | 1:14 | |
| more than helping us. | 1:16 | |
| President Obama made the same conclusion | 1:18 | |
| and I agree with him. | 1:22 |
