| - | Something that's so seared in my mind, | 0:00 |
| in such a horrible way, though. | 0:04 | |
| And that was, | 0:06 | |
| forced feedings. | 0:10 | |
| I don't think, | 0:15 | |
| I don't know if I could have ever actually done that. | 0:16 | |
| You know, thankfully being a psych tech, you know, | 0:19 | |
| it was the regular corpsman | 0:22 | |
| who were actually doing | 0:24 | |
| most of the feedings with the nurses. | 0:25 | |
| But I saw it occur and it was just, | 0:29 | |
| I think, I think far and away, | 0:32 | |
| the most dehumanizing thing | 0:34 | |
| I've actually seen with my own eyes in my entire life. | 0:36 | |
| They have a special chair | 0:40 | |
| in which they strap the detainee into | 0:44 | |
| and if the detainee is compliant, you know, it's one thing. | 0:47 | |
| It can be relatively smooth. | 0:53 | |
| If not, and many of the detainees were non-compliant | 0:57 | |
| who were being force fed, | 1:01 | |
| 'cause that was part of the whole thing | 1:02 | |
| was that they were refusing to eat, again, | 1:04 | |
| looking back, exercising that control. | 1:07 | |
| And so then what they would do, | 1:10 | |
| their whole body is strapped in. | 1:11 | |
| So they don't have the ability to move their limbs, | 1:13 | |
| and even their torso at all, 'cause they're strapped. | 1:15 | |
| And then they'd force their head back, | 1:18 | |
| forced their head back so that it creates a straight passage | 1:22 | |
| and then drop a gastro tube into their stomach | 1:27 | |
| and feed them Ensure, | 1:30 | |
| and the whole time, | 1:31 | |
| the detainee, trying to resist, | 1:32 | |
| is trying to gag on it so that he'll be spitting it back up | 1:34 | |
| so that it won't actually be going down, | 1:38 | |
| trying to loosen the tube. | 1:40 | |
| And it just seemed like the most despicable thing | 1:41 | |
| seeing a grown man with no ability to move in any way, | 1:46 | |
| except for some, you know, | 1:52 | |
| some movement with his jaw, with his mouth, | 1:54 | |
| with his head marginally, | 1:56 | |
| they've got, you know, the head | 1:58 | |
| strapped in there as well, tilted back. | 1:59 | |
| And, you know, this tube just being | 2:01 | |
| forced down the whole time. | 2:04 | |
| You can just internally see he's trying | 2:05 | |
| everything in his power to, you know, to spit that back out. | 2:07 |
