| - | I only knew one woman | 0:00 |
| that had specifically told me | 0:02 | |
| that she had been raped by people in my unit, | 0:05 | |
| and that I never reported that, | 0:08 | |
| and she never reported that. | 0:10 | |
| Interviewer | Why do you think? | 0:14 |
| - | About not reporting it? | 0:16 |
| She knew she wouldn't be taken seriously, | 0:17 | |
| and I agreed with her. | 0:19 | |
| They all operated under the, | 0:22 | |
| we were the least of their concerns | 0:25 | |
| and our problems were not, | 0:27 | |
| I mean it's all a matter of chain of command | 0:30 | |
| because we were there as JTF-GTMO, | 0:32 | |
| so we would have to report to JTF-GTMO. | 0:34 | |
| So if you're going to report something like that to | 0:36 | |
| that camp, it's all very small, | 0:38 | |
| and these women work in these units, | 0:40 | |
| everybody would know immediately, you know, | 0:43 | |
| I mean it would be, | 0:45 | |
| if you dropped that, the thing, | 0:45 | |
| if it got outside of the chain of command, | 0:47 | |
| it's going to be a huge issue. | 0:50 | |
| So that it never became a huge issue, | 0:54 | |
| means that those women that did bring those charges up | 0:56 | |
| were not taken seriously. | 0:59 | |
| And from further communication with that woman | 1:01 | |
| that I know that was there, that was raped, | 1:04 | |
| I know that she knows of other women | 1:06 | |
| that were raped while they were there. | 1:08 | |
| And I am not surprised by the general behavior | 1:11 | |
| and the general mentality of the people | 1:15 | |
| that I saw there, that that is the case. | 1:18 | |
| I oftentimes felt very sexually threatened | 1:21 | |
| in that I might be raped. | 1:24 | |
| I was very, because I am, | 1:25 | |
| I don't fit the normal manly build of the soldier, | 1:30 | |
| I was oftentimes kind of treated like a woman, | 1:34 | |
| or more realistically, just a gay soldier. | 1:38 | |
| My name was basically faggot while I was | 1:42 | |
| in the military and I had a lot of rape threats. | 1:44 | |
| I had a lot of really creepy things said | 1:47 | |
| on top of just, I mean, pounds and pounds and pounds | 1:49 | |
| of daily verbal abuse that I learned to just accept. | 1:53 | |
| And there were several situations. | 1:57 | |
| One time I was duct taped to my bed by people in my unit. | 1:59 | |
| And I thought that I was going to be raped. | 2:03 | |
| I thought that I was being raped the whole time. | 2:04 | |
| And I was left in my bed, duct-taped, naked to my bed. | 2:06 | |
| And I was late for work the next day | 2:09 | |
| until my roommate came home and | 2:12 | |
| unduct-taped me and, | 2:16 | |
| Interviewer | Why did that happen? | 2:18 |
| - | They got drunk. | 2:19 |
| They didn't even remember that they did it the next day | 2:21 | |
| or they never admitted to it. | 2:23 | |
| I took it immediately to my command. | 2:24 | |
| Cause I was punished upon getting to work | 2:27 | |
| about why I had showed up late. | 2:30 | |
| And then, so I immediately said, well | 2:32 | |
| my guys in my unit did this and that. | 2:34 | |
| And my superiors and the DOC said, well | 2:36 | |
| then we're going to have to talk to your command. | 2:40 | |
| And then it just all disappeared. | 2:41 | |
| And apparently they'd done it | 2:43 | |
| to like three other people in our unit. | 2:44 |
