- | You know, we described | 0:00 |
our investigative mission as being upside down. | 0:01
In a normal criminal investigation, | 0:07
you go to a crime scene where a crime has been committed. | 0:10
And you interview victims and witnesses and so forth, | 0:14
and you get some gathered some physical evidence | 0:19
and you get some testimonial evidence from them. | 0:21
And you use that evidence to go try to narrow | 0:24
down who your subject is. | 0:27
And then you make an arrest | 0:29
and you bring that subject in and you talk to them | 0:32
and you gather more evidence and you put it all together | 0:34
and you decide if you have a case | 0:36
and then you take the case to the prosecutor. | 0:38
Well, in this case, we were given a large group of people | 0:40
and someone said, these are your, your possible subjects. | 0:45
They've done something bad, go figure it out. | 0:49
So now we're starting from, you know, the subjects. | 0:53
And we're trying to determine who among them was involved | 0:56
in that crime or that crime or that crime | 0:59
or that crime a few years ago | 1:01
in Yemen or that crime a few years ago in New York. | 1:03
You know, how do you do that? | 1:06
It's an upside down investigation. | 1:08
You're starting from the subject instead of from the | 1:10
from the crime scene and the evidence. | 1:12
And by the way | 1:15 | |
the crime scenes have all taken place over years. | 1:16
The evidence is, you know, monumental | 1:18
the testimony is hard to believe. | 1:21
None of the people that are | 1:24
in your subject pool can tell you who they really are | 1:25
with any degree of certainty or your, or believability. | 1:27
None of them have ID cards or, or passports | 1:31
but solve this problem for us. | 1:34
Really, really difficult mission. | 1:37
And so I think as time went | 1:39
on our people very much so changed their views and said | 1:40
we gathered up a bunch of subjects. | 1:45
There's probably a bunch of them | 1:47
that have no business being here. | 1:48
There's a bunch here that we know | 1:51
we got something on | 1:53
and there's a bunch of here, we have no idea yet. | 1:54
How do we figure that out? | 1:56 |
