| - | But this is like scraping on hard pebbles right now | 0:00 |
| because here you have a situation | 0:04 | |
| where there's still a number of innocent people, | 0:05 | |
| a majority at Guantanamo probably, | 0:08 | |
| but a number who have been found | 0:10 | |
| not an enemy combatants by the federal court | 0:11 | |
| and they're still there. | 0:14 | |
| And there's bureaucracy hanging it up. | 0:15 | |
| There's all kinds of other things hanging it up. | 0:17 | |
| And this is way after, | 0:20 | |
| a year after Obama promised to close it. | 0:21 | |
| You're seeing now that there might be | 0:24 | |
| as many as 50 people going to trial, | 0:26 | |
| many of them before military commissions, | 0:28 | |
| which I consider, you know kangaroo courts and unauthorized. | 0:31 | |
| Many of them held in preventive detention, possibly. | 0:35 | |
| So you're talking about, | 0:40 | |
| and you have innocent people there after eight years. | 0:41 | |
| You know what? | 0:43 | |
| I've never understood a couple of things. | 0:44 | |
| One is I've had clients put into jail here in New York | 0:45 | |
| for various reasons, | 0:49 | |
| and if they spend an extra day in jail, | 0:50 | |
| we lift Heaven and Earth. | 0:55 | |
| And it's an outrage. | 0:57 | |
| Like if they get picked up | 0:58 | |
| and they don't get brought before a court in 24 or 48 hours, | 0:59 | |
| that's considered to be, I mean, crazy. | 1:03 | |
| I've had, you know, | 1:05 | |
| particularly clients in demonstrations and others, | 1:06 | |
| where we lift Heaven and Hell to do it. | 1:09 | |
| And it's not that we haven't lifted | 1:11 | |
| that for the Guantanamo clients, | 1:12 | |
| but the idea that you could one day decide, | 1:15 | |
| okay, well we're not ready to send this guy out | 1:17 | |
| or he's innocent. | 1:19 | |
| And then diddle around year after year | 1:20 | |
| while you have an innocent person there | 1:23 | |
| and not think that human freedom deprived for one day | 1:25 | |
| is an outrage, I don't know. | 1:27 | |
| I don't, I don't, I actually don't understand it. | 1:29 | |
| I just, it's unclear to me how it could happen. | 1:33 |
