Ekstrè chita-pale sou istwa sinema ayisyen ant Jean Dominique, Jonathan Demme, epi Edwidge Danticat. Imajinasyon sa a, dapre Dominique, se “pwojeksyon ayisyen an, sinema ayisyen an.”
Selections from the History of Haitian Cinema conversations between Jean Dominique, Jonathan Demme, and Edwidge Danticat. Demme asks why there has never been a film about Makandal or Boukman. Dominique responds with a story about spontaneous popular resistance to the 6-7 January 1991 attempted coup d’état by Roger Lafontant. That day, a man told Dominique, “Boukman leve jodiya!” (“Boukman has risen today!”) This imagination, according to Dominique, is “the Haitian projection, Haitian cinema.” Dominique then tells a story from 1976, when an old woman said she dreamt that she was sick in bed and Dominique, her “son,” had come to help her. in this dream, she saw balloons of all the "nanchon" (the African nations from which Haitians are descended). She went on to explain that when they put the devil (Duvalier) in power twenty years ago, all the African gods went back to Africa, but soon they will come back, and they will help us get rid of the devils. These sessions were filmed at Ramapo College in New Jersey.
