(00:00:00) Le président René Préval annonce qu’il est urgent de se pencher sur la situation des prisons en Haïti et de libérer les gens emprisonnés qui ne devraient pas l’être. Le pénitencier national peut recevoir 300 prisonniers et il accueille plus de 1000 personnes. La réforme des prisons va se faire en collaboration avec le ministère de la Justice et la MICIVIH. (00:03:06) Un représentant du ministère de la Justice décrit la détention prolongée comme une violation des droits humains. (00:03:06) Colin Granderson, un responsable de la MICIVIH, parle de l’appui technique que son organisation va donner au gouvernement, pour réaliser la réforme des prisons.
(00:00:00) President René Préval announces urgent plans to study the situation of Haiti's prisons and release prisoners who are unlawfully detained. The Pénitencier National has capacity for around 300 prisoners, but it houses more than 1000. Prison reform will be accomplished with in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice and MICIVIH. (00:02:16) A representative of the Ministry of Justice describes indefinite detention as a human rights violation. (00:03:06) Colin Granderson of MICIVIH describes the technical support MICIVIH will provide the Haitian government as it undertakes prison reform.
