(00:00:00) Declaration of President-elect Jean-Bertrand Aristide after the attempted coup d'état by Roger Lafontant on the night of 6-7 January 1991. Speaking of the Macoutes that are still free, Aristide urges the population to "watch them, hold them, block them, stop them from creating disorder." Addressing the army, he congratulates them on two victories: the democratic elections of 16 December 1990, and the arrest of Roger Lafontant. He encourages a third victory: the arrest of remaining Macoutes. Aristide describes what happened to him during the attempted coup. (00:6:54) Jean-Robert Sabalat describes the attack on the CEP headquarters during the Lafontant coup attempt. He emphasizes that this was theft pure and simple, not politically-motivated dechoukaj.
