President Jean-Bertrand Aristide says that the Haitian government will respect the terms of OAS Resolution 822, to strengthen democracy in Haiti. The resolution came about after an inquiry into the events of December 17, 2001, in which the National Palace was occupied by armed men, and in response to the ongoing climate of insecurity and conflict between Lavalas and the opposition. In addition to addressing insecurity, Resolution 822 also calls for investigations into the assassinations of journalists Jean Dominique and Brignol Lindor. Aristide says that Haiti will respect the resolution, but denounces foreigners (particularly US Senator Christopher Dodd) who speak ill of Haiti.
