  • Jean Dominique negatively reviews Marcel d'Ans's HAÏTI: PAYSAGE ET SOCIÉTÉ. According to Dominique, d'Ans ignores the rural farmers and workers -- the poor people -- who were victims of François Duvalier's regime. D'Ans is an apologist for the Duvalier dictatorship. He believes Macoute propaganda. He downplays the importance of peasant resistance to Duvalierism and the Macoutes (for example at Bocozelle), claiming that the peasantry got along reasonably with the dictatorship. On the contrary, says Dominique: repression of Haiti's peasants was a central tactic of Duvalierism. D'Ans mischaracterizes many other aspects of Haitian history: according to him, the Haitian revolution was a failure, and marronage is a myth (despite the coffee revolution that resulted from the presence of maroons in the mountains, and the history of Makandal). Includes clips of d'Ans's interview with Dominique in September 1989.

D’après Dominique, d’Ans ignore tous les paysans et ouvriers, tous les plus pauvres, victimes du régime de François Duvalier. D’Ans fait l’apologie de la dictature de Duvalier. Il croit la propagande des macoutes. Il minimise l’importance de la résistance des paysans contre Duvalier (par exemple à Bozozèl) et prétend que les paysans s’accommodaient bien du régime Duvalier. Au contraire, dit Dominique, la répression paysanne était un point central de la répression duvaliériste. D’Ans a dénaturé plusieurs autres aspects de l’histoire d’Haïti : d’après lui, la révolution haitienne était un échec et le marronage est un mythe (malgré la révolution du café qui résulte de la présence de marrons dans les mornes, et l’histoire de Makandal). L’émission comporte des extraits d’une interview accordée par d’Ans en septembre 1989.
