Jacques Édouard Alexis, ki se yonn nan responsab UNESCO ann Ayiti, ak Patrick Elie pale sou yon seminè ki fèt sou edikasyon lasyans ak teknoloji ak rechèch syantifik. Yo dekri an patikilye enpòtans lasyans aplike pou plizyè sektè nan peyi a, tankou agrikilti, agwo-endistri, rebwazman, elatriye. Èske Ayiti ka gen yon politik syantifik endepandan pandan ke peyi a toujou anba pye gwo pwisans yo? Elie pale sou inyorans syantifik ann Ayiti an jeneral, ak sou jan diktati Duvalier a te kontribye a inyorans sa a paske yo pa t vle lide sikile.
Jacques Édouard Alexis of UNESCO and Patrick Elie discuss a seminar on science and technology education and scientific research. They describe in particular the importance of applied science for several sectors in Haiti, including agriculture, agro-industry, reforestation, and so on. Can Haiti have independent scientific policy while it remains dominated by foreign powers? Elie describes general scientific illiteracy in Haiti, and how the Duvalier dictatorship contributed to this by prohibiting the free exchange of ideas.
