Sal redaksyon Radyo Ayiti reponn ak yon depèch kontwovès korespondan Ajans Frans-près Dominique Levanti te soti 16 janvye 1979 sou Siman d Ayiti. Yo pale tou sou koman laprès nasyonal an Ayiti te resevwa depèch la. Depèch la site yon sous ayisyen anonim ki rele sityasyon an yon "chantay sou relasyon ayisyano-franse ak yon vyolasyon politik jiskadyen sou peyi Tyèsmond yo». Pouki li bay manti? Efektivman, pou defann enterè ki byen presi». Konvèsasyon an vire sou kesyon metye jounalis menm, sou wòl laprès endepandan nan sosyete a, ak enpòtans entegrite jounalis ak libète laprès. Ki wòl laprès endepandan nan kore ouvriye k ap revandike dwa yo, swa ouvriye Siman d Ayiti swa ouvriye nan lòt antrepriz, ak pou kore peyizan ak lòt gwoup sosyal ki defavorize yo?
Radio Haiti's newsroom responds to Agence France-presse correspondent Dominique Levanti's explosive press dispatch about Ciment d'Haïti (published January 16, 1979) and discusses the response of Haitian media outlets to the dispatch. The dispatch claimed that the multinational Ciment d'Haïti (primarily owned by the Lambert family) had laid off some 118 workers as an act of reprisal after the government lowered the price of cement. The dispatch quoted Claude Lambert as saying that "our dossier is on the desk of Mr. Giscard d'Estaing, and we are losing $10,000 per day following this brutal price drop that contradicts the earlier governmental agreement." However, the dispatch did not specify whether this was the French president, Valéry Giscard d'Estaing, or his cousin François. The dispatch also quoted an anonymous Haitian source who called the situation a "shakedown of Haitian-French relations and a violation of Giscardian policy toward the Third World." The same source claimed that the leadership of Ciment d'Haïti had made poor financial decisions and produced poor-quality cement. "He who lies will continue to lie," says Jean Dominique of Levanti, "but what is important to us are the motivations for those lies. Why does he lie? Clearly, to defend very specific interests." The conversation turns to journalism itself, the role of independent journalists in society and the importance of journalistic integrity and freedom of the press. What might be the role of the independent press in supporting workers, those of Ciment d'Haïti and others, as well as peasant farmers and other exploited groups? What is the relationship between solidarity and truth?
