For him, the parallels between King Creon and Duvalier are clear. He describes the role of the artist in political revolution; he considers it the duty of the writer to defend the Haitian people. He also describes his experiences as a member of La Ruche, his opinions on Négritude and Francophonie (which he considers a defense of French imperialism), and the relationship between race and class. He explains that many of the events he describes in La Ravine aux Diables (Ravinodyab) are based on real atrocities committed by the Macoutes.
