L’Heure Haïtienne broadcast for August 7, 1988. In Jérémie, Archbishop Willy Romélus organized a mass for peasant farmers from the Grand’Anse, who have come together to express solidarity with the peasant farmers of Jean-Rabel, one year after the July 1987 Jean-Rabel massacre. Includes the voices of Romélus and of some of the members of the local peasant organizations. Romélus strongly criticizes General Namphy’s military government. In news from Haiti, Le Moniteur reports on the removal of the mayor of Delmas. In Grand-Goâve, soldiers forced a Canadian priest named René Poirier out of the country because of his opposition to the military government and his activities on behalf of the poor. At Saint-Jean Bosco parish, Father Jean-Bertrand Aristide pronounced an impassioned speech against US imperialism, in which he declares that Satan’s spirit dances in the head of Ronald Reagan and the bald eagle symbol is in fact a vulture. Includes several songs.
