  • Father Jean-Marie Vincent (speaking French) describes the circumstances that led to the July 1987 Jean-Rabel massacre: the powerful Lucas and Poitevien families that controlled the land in the area, a widespread anti-communist campaign, and divisions between the activist “ti legliz” church that preaches liberation theology and the traditional Catholic Church hierarchy. Vincent’s speech is interspersed with songs of peasant rights.
