Jean Dominique discusses Reagan’s election and how it may affect Haiti in terms of policy toward Haitian refugees and how the Iran-Iraq War will drive up gas prices in Haiti. According to Dominique, Reagan’s triumph is a return to the pre-Watergate Nixon days, and is the revenge of the Nixonites. Jean-Claude Duvalier’s Minister of Information Jean-Marie Chanoine also reacted to Reagan’s election in the newspaper Le Matin. Father Gérard Jean-Juste, in Miami, comments on the Cayo Lobos crisis and the mistreatment of Haitian refugees. Father Max Dominique, a priest who works with Haitians in the Bahamas describes in detail the mistreatment Haitians endure in the Bahamas, and declares that these Haitians do not want to return to Haiti out of fear of persecution. Also includes the nurses’ strike at the General Hospital; the court martial of police captain Michel Césaire in Cap-Haïtien for police brutality; parliamentarian Alexandre Lerouge’s investigation into the deaths of Jean-René Dorvil and Jean-Claude Joseph, who were found dead at sea; and Salesian brother Hubert Sanon discussing a new professional training program.
