  • L’Heure Haïtienne broadcast. They respond to Louis Déjoie II’s letter to Jean-Claude Duvalier, in which he requests permission to return to Haiti. They remind listeners that Louis Déjoie II was a playboy who used to hang around with Georges Léger. They believe that Déjoie’s effort to relaunch the political party PAIN is simply to give himself the appearance of being a politician, and that the US and the Duvalier government will use Déjoie’s return to show that the Duvalier regime is “democratic.” To commemorate the upcoming International Women’s Day (March 8), L’Heure Haïtienne analyzes how the growing conservative movement in the US seeks to push regressive ideas and dominate women. According to them, the domination of women (particularly working-class women) did not begin with Reagan — this is a function of capitalism, and the oppression of women serves the interests of the bourgeoisie. L’Heure Haïtienne is helping the “Haitian fathers” (liberation theology priests) raise money in support of political prisoners in Haiti. Father William Smarth speaks. Includes music by Ti Manno and the Atis Endepandan.
