Emisyon Radyo Ayiti nan Nouyòk pou 19 dawout 1983. Yon “alyans enfènal” ap kore kandidati Franck Romain pou majistra Pòtoprens. Katèl sa a gen ladan li Ernest Bros, Josette Deaz, Dr. Alix Larsen, Ernst Gauthier, Gérard Cassis, Joseph Mondésir, ak Damien François. Congressional Black Caucus peyi Etazini (yon gwoup lejislatè nwa lachanm peyi Etazini) te voye yon delegasyon an Ayiti pou obsève eleksyon yo, epi Edolphus Towns, yon manm Kongrè, denonse eleksyon malatchong Ayiti yo. Mike Hooper, yon avoka ki defann dwa moun, eksplike ke gouvènman an arete patizan Sylvio Claude (pami yo Duplex Jean-Baptiste, Frédéric Dénizé, Emmanuel Giles, Antoine Phanor, ak Édouard Pierre) nan Pòtoprens. Nan Miyami, Bob Kunst, yon militan omoseksyèl, lanse yon apèl pou yon bòykòt machandiz ayisyen, aprè gouvènman Duvalier anonse li gen entansyon mete omoseksyèl nan prizon pou kwape simayaj maladi SIDA. Gouvènman Duvalier a byen renmen ostilite sa a, paske sa pèmèt yo lonje dwèt sou rasis ameriken, olye yo pran responsabilite simayaj SIDA yo menm. Nan yon editorial nan jounal divalyeris Le Nouveau Monde, Ernest Bennett deklare li resi dakò avèk “laprès kamoken” ke peyi Etazini rasis kont ayisyen. Pandan setan, doktè ayisyen Ozetazini te vizite CDC pou mande pou yo wete ayisyen sou lis “katrach” la. Gouvènman makout la demanti yo pral devalye goud ayisyen an, menmsi y ap enprime plis lajan, ki se lakòz enflasyon ap ogmante an Ayiti — ki gen konsekans trè grav pou malere yo.
Radio Haiti in New York broadcast for August 19, 1983. An “infernal alliance” has supported Franck Romain’s candidacy for mayor of Port-au-Prince. The cartel includes Ernest Bros, Josette Deaz, Dr. Alix Larsen, Ernst Gauthier, Gérard Cassis, Joseph Mondésir, and Damien François. The US Congressional Black Caucus sent a delegation to Haiti to observe the elections, and Congressman Edolphus Towns has denounced the corrupt elections in Haiti. Human rights lawyer Mike Hooper describes how partisans of Sylvio Claude (including Duplex Jean-Baptiste, Frédéric Dénizé, Emmanuel Giles, Antoine Phanor, and Édouard Pierre) were arrested in Port-au-Prince. In Miami, gay activist Bob Kunst has called for a boycott of goods from Haiti, following the Duvalier government’s announcement that it intends to imprison homosexuals to stop the spread of AIDS. The Duvalier government welcomes this hostility, as it allows them to blame US racism toward Haiti for the spread of AIDS, rather than taking responsibility themselves. In an editorial in the Duvalierist newspaper Le Nouveau Monde, Ernest Bennett declares that he agrees with the “camoquin press” that the US is racist toward Haitians. Meanwhile, Haitian doctors in the US have gone to the CDC to request that Haitians be removed from the list of “4 Hs.” The Macoute government denies that it is going to devalue the Haitian gourde, even as they print more money, which leads to inflation — and disastrous consequences for the poor.
