Emisyon Radyo Ayiti nan Nouyòk pou 19 dawout 1983. Yon jou anvan, otorite imigrasyon Etazini arete 107 moun, pami yo 104 ayisyen, ki t ap travay nan yon faktori New Jersey.
Radio Haiti in New York broadcast for August 19, 1983. The previous day, the US Immigration and Naturalization Services arrested 107 people, including 104 Haitians, working at a factory in New Jersey. Pastor Cadeau describes the arrests: immigration officers only asked, “Are you Haitian?” and did not ask if people were legal residents or had refugee status. In Port-au-Prince, the Leopards militia descended on Sylvio Claude’s house shortly after the death of Claude’s father and stole the body. Claude’s brother, Wendell Claude, describes what happened. Father Émile (likely Émile Jacquot), an American pastor speaking English, and Father William Smarth react to the theft of Claude’s father’s body. Municipal elections were held in Port-au-Prince, but these were corrupt elections in which everyone knew that Franck Romain would win the mayoral contest in Port-au-Prince.
