  • Jean Dominique interviews René Théodore of the Parti unifié des communistes haïtiens (PUCH) about the current political situation under the Conseil National de Gouvernement, in which the possible return of Macoutes represents a danger to the country, while it remains unclear whether the upcoming elections will be clean or corrupt. Théodore describes the antagonism between the CNG and the Conseil Électoral Provisoire (CEP), as the CNG continues to undermine the CEP's authority. He also discusses KONAKOM's ambivalent attitude toward PUCH; members of KONAKOM remain divided over whether communists should be part of the broader democratic movement. Théodore describes the role of the United States in supporting the Duvalier dictatorship and interfering in Haiti's politics. According to Théodore, the Haitian people need more grassroots representation in the form of "people's committees" (komite popilè) to replace the CNG, which is a de facto government that should not have any real power. However, he disagrees with the actions of Colonel Octave Cayard and a recent popular congress held in Gonaïves, which he says was poorly planned without working together with the people of Gonaïves. Finally, Dominique asks about Théodore's antagonistic relationship with Leslie Manigat.

Théodore décrit l’hostilité entre le CNG et le Conseil électoral provisoire (CEP), alors que le CNG continue à bafouer l’autorité du CEP. Il parle aussi de l’attitude du KONAKOM face au PUCH; des membres du KONAKOM sont divisés sur la participation des communistes au mouvement démocratique. Théodore explique le rôle des États-Unis, son support à la dictature des Duvalier et ses interférences dans les affaires d’Haïti en général. D’après Théodore, le peuple haïtien a besoin de comités populaires pour défendre ses intérêts, pour remplacer le CNG, qui est un gouvernement de facto qui ne devrait avoir aucun pouvoir. Cependant, il n’est pas d’accord avec l’action du colonel Octave Cayard, ni avec le congrès populaire qui s’était tenu aux Gonaïves qui n’était pas bien planifié et n’avait pas été réalisé avec la participation populaire. Enfin, Dominique interroge Théodore sur ses relations antagoniques avec Leslie Manigat.
