After Roger Lafontant's January 6-7, 1991 coup attempt was crushed by the army, Jean Dominique salutes the Haitian people ("those thousands of Boukmans"), and the soldiers who resisted Lafontant (particularly the low-ranking "ti sòlda" and General Abraham who "resisted the siren song of the Macoutes"). Lafontant's actions were part of a larger plot and Duvalierist infiltration -- how else could a handful of supporters have so easily invaded the National Palace and seized provisional president Ertha Pascal-Trouillot? Dominique cautions against the ongoing threat posed by Macoutes and Macoutism, who are consolidating their power particularly in Delmas 31, unleashing waves of vandalism and pillaging (for example, against the CEP), and undermining recently-elected Jean-Bertrand Aristide and everything he stands for (the "twa wòch dife" -- justice, transparency, and participation). Dominique discusses divisions and uncertainties within the army -- those who support the Constitution and burgeoning democracy, and those who harbor Duvalierist sympathies.

Les actions de Lafontant s'inscrivent dans le cadre d'un complot plus large d'infiltration duvaliériste – comment expliquer sinon qu'une poignée de ses partisans puissent avoir si facilement envahi le Palais National et être parvenus à la présidente provisoire Ertha Pascal-Trouillot ? Dominique prévient que les éléments macoutes et le macoutisme sont toujours là, tapis dans l'ombre, et consolident leur pouvoir, particulièrement à Delmas 31 où ils organisent pillages et vandalisme (comme par exemple à l'encontre du CEP) pour affaiblir le fraichement élu Jean-Bertrand Aristide et ses principes (les « twa wòch dife » – justice, transparence et participation). Dominique parle des luttes intestines au sein de l'armée entre ceux qui supportent la constitution et la démocratie balbutiante et ceux qui arborent toujours des sympathies duvaliéristes.
