Jean Dominique's editorial upon the reopening of Radio Haïti-Inter on October 7, 1986. He salutes the team of journalists, honors those who have fallen (especially Richard Brisson), and thanks all of Radio Haïti's supporters, in Haiti and in the diaspora, and particularly the ordinary people who contributed to the station's rebuilding. He then addresses some "misunderstandings" -- people who claim that he is personally profiting from the money raised, or that Radio Haiti is not truly independent because they accepted money from the poor. He speaks of the frailty of freedom of the press, and of liberty in general. He says that Radio Haiti will remain the voice of the poorest and most marginalized Haitian people. Éditorial de Jean Dominique pour commémorer le 7 Octobre 1986, date de la réouverture de Radio Haïti. Il a rendu hommage à l’équipe de journalistes présents, à ceux qui avaient disparus (en particulier Richard Brisson); il a remercié tous ceux qui avaient aidé à la reconstruction de Radio Haïti, au pays comme dans la diaspora, surtout les plus pauvres qui ont contribué au mouvement de solidarité. Il a ensuite levé quelques malentendus, répondant à ceux qui prétendaient qu’il profitait personnellement des sommes recueillies, ceux qui disaient que Radio Haïti n’était pas un média indépendant puisqu’il avait accepté l’argent des pauvres. Il a expliqué que la liberté de la presse, la liberté et l’indépendance en général, sont des choses fragiles.
