On the eve of the beginning of the Raboteau trial, journalist Grégory Casimir interviews Fritz Désir, the spokesperson for the Raboteau victims, and Marie Roussette Nicolas, former mayor of Gonaïves and resident of Raboteau. They each describe their experiences during the 22 April 1994 massacre, as well as the current situation in Raboteau. Désir describes how soldiers beat him as he held his young child. His wife was seven months pregnant, and later miscarried. He saw Claude Jean ("Ti Claude") shot dead. While the army claims that people from slums like Raboteau are rebellious, "if there had been resistance, there would have been soldiers who died." Many bodies were never even identified. Nicolas describes being shot at by Michel Ange Ménard, and she also witnessed violence by FRAPH members.
