En tant que soldat, Sénatus était supposé obéir aux ordres des officiers supérieurs, mais il finit néanmoins par refuser de prendre part à l'opération, suivant les conseils de Lubérisse ; il fut donc transféré à l'autre bout du pays à la demande de Castera. Il apprit le massacre par sa femme, enceinte, et sa mère, qui fuirent le massacre.

After the arrest, Michel-Ange Ménard announced that they had "caught the kamokens of Raboteau." Élismé describes additional abuse by Dessources, Wilson Casséus, Yofou, and Castera Cénafils after his arrest, and also describes the arrest of Abdel Saint-Louis. Testimony of former sergeant David Sénatus begins. He describes a meeting in in October 1993, in which soldiers, led by Castera Cénafils, planned a massacre in Raboteau when they heard that Jean-Bertrand Aristide might be returning to Haiti soon. As a native of Raboteau, Sénatus was expected to assist, including by identifying Ti Cubain. Though soldiers were not supposed to disobey the orders of superior officers, Sénatus ultimately did refuse to participate in the massacre at the recommendation of Lubérisse, and Castera had him transferred elsewhere in the country. He first learned what had taken place in Raboteau from his mother and his pregnant wife, who had fled the massacre.
