  • Lawyer Roland Paphius is called as a witness in the Raboteau trial. He had been the head prosecutor in Gonaïves at the time of the massacre. He describes the reports of the destruction, torture, and massacre that he received at the time from Judge Jean-Baptiste Dorismond and Marie Roussette Nicolas, particularly concerning criminal acts by ex-captains Castera Cénafils and Raynald Timo. He denies that he was afraid to investigate these claims; rather, at the time the army was fulfilling the role of the police in Gonaïves, and any investigation of the massacre would have involved collaboration with the same soldiers who were accused.
