Ayiti gen anpil biyodivèsite ak richès natirèl, men pwoblèm ewozyon ak degradasyon tè, polisyon ak dechè (sitou plastik), kontaminasyon sous dlo, min, elatriye ap menase anviwònman peyi a. Se pa sèlman peyizan k ap malsèvi ak tè epi koupe pyebwa ki fè debwazman ak ewozyon vin yon gwo pwoblèm -- pwoblèm nan ale pi fon ke sa. Men nan menm tan, peyizan yo pa gen menm relasyon ak tè a jan yo te genyen nan tan lontan (pa egzanp, yo te konn plante yon pyebwa sou kòd lonbrit chak tibebe ki fèk fèt). Julien ak Calixte pale tou sou metòd pedagojik pou ankouraje alfabetizasyon ekolojik.
Jean Robert Julien of REPIE (Réseau d'Enseignement Professionnel et d'Interventions Écologiques) and Aldrin Calixte of COPEDHA (Collectif Haïtien pour la Protection de l'Environnement et le Développement) discuss the ecology and environment of Haiti. Haiti has a great deal of biodiversity and natural resources, but the environment is threatened by erosion and land degradation, pollution and the accumulation of trash (particularly plastics), contamination of water sources, mining, and so on. Deforestation and erosion are not simply due to farmers misusing land or cutting down trees -- the problem goes much deeper. At the same time, Haiti's rural farmers no longer have the same relationship with the land and trees as they did long ago (for example, when they used to plant a tree over a newborn's umbilical cord). Julien and Calixte also discuss pedagogical methods to increase ecological literacy.
