  • On the occasion of International Women's Day, Carline Simon of Fanm Solèy Leve, Selina Noël of MPP, and Marie Laurence Lassègue of Fanm Yo La discuss the objectives and activities of their respective organizations and women's rights in general. Lassègue describes Fanm Yo La as an organization that focused on increasing women's political representation, Noël describes how women's rights issues are incorporated into MPP's larger peasants' rights platform, and Simon describes Fanm Solèy Leve's work on literacy, health, and professional training for women. The guests discuss the role of women's resistance in Haitian history from Cécile Fatiman to the Ligue Féminine d'Action Sociale to the present, how the battle for women's rights in Haiti has changed since 1986, and the problems of violence against women and rape. They also talk about how the political and economic crisis has affected women.
