Description:

  • Jean-Claude Paulvin of ECOSOF and Camille Chalmers of PAPDA discuss Haiti's economic crisis at the beginning of the year 2001. They describe the macroeconomic situation, the rising cost of living, brain drain, and the relationship between the political crisis (and insecurity) and the economic crisis. They also discuss Haiti's budget deficit and the impact of the country's external debt and IMF policy, particularly the disastrous consequences of structural adjustment programs.
