  • Public prosecutor Josué Pierre-Louis, Serge Bordenave of POHDH, and defense attorney Patrice Laventure discuss the progress of the Raboteau trial. This past week, the court has heard all 22 defendants who are present. Bordenave and Pierre-Louis discuss the importance of the documents in the FADH archives (which were left in disarray at the army headquarters). Laventure discusses the difficulties in mounting a uniform defense of the defendants. Bordenave and Pierre-Louis explain that the subalterns are continuing to obey and follow the lead of their former superiors; whatever Cénafils Castera says, the others follow. They also discuss the problems of language -- that some of the defendants do not understand French and cannot read or write, but the justice system is mainly in French. In some cases, this means that the defendants deny what they said in their original depositions. Host: Grégory Casimir.

Tous les 22 accusés présents au tribunal ont été entendus la semaine dernière. Bordenave et Pierre-Louis souligent l'importance des documents retrouvés dans les archives des FADH, qui avaient été laissés à l'abandon au quartier général de l'armée. Laventure raconte les difficultés pour monter une défense unie entre tous les accusés. Bordenave et Pierre-Louis expliquent que les subalternes continuent d'obéir à leurs anciens supérieurs ; ils suivent aveuglément les consignes de Cénafils Castera. Les intervenants abordent aussi les problèmes linguistiques – certains accusés ne parlent pas français et d'autres sont analphabètes ; or, le système judiciaire étant principalement en français, certains contredisent accidentellement ce qu'ils ont déclaré dans leurs dépositions originelles.
