Napela Saintil, the presiding judge of the court in Gonaïves; Florence Elie, the head of the coordination office for the Raboteau trial; public prosecutor Josué Pierre-Louis; Serge Bordenave of POHDH; victims' counsel Mario Joseph of the Bureau des Avocats Internationaux; and Junior Constant Pierre of Justice et Paix discuss the culmination of the Raboteau trial. On November 10, 2000, sixteen people were found guilty, of whom twelve were sentenced to life imprisonment with hard labor. Bordenave reviews the conduct of the different participants in the trial. While he has some criticisms of Saintil's impatience and Joseph's tactics, his main criticisms are of the defense attorneys. Elie also describes some of the problems with the defense. Joseph defends his strategy to claim a large sum of damages for the plaintiffs, and the technical questions of civil parties who cannot act as witnesses. Listeners call in.
