Granderson describes the repression of the people of Raboteau by the army and FRAPH, the lack of evidence that the military post had been attacked by the people of Raboteau (there were no bullet holes, for example), and the findings of MICIVIH's investigation after the massacre. They found several people killed and many houses burned. He also describes the people of Raboteau's singular resistance to the army -- more than any other place in Haiti. The Raboteau massacre occurred in a larger political context: the army and FRAPH committed more human rights violations following the July 1993 Governors Island accord. He also describes the close relationship between the military and FRAPH. There were the obvious victims -- those beaten or killed -- but there are innumerable other victims: people displaced from their land, people forced to abandon their families, the "boat people" forced to flee. After his deposition, the courtroom audience applauds. Granderson answers questions. He describes the army's continued threats and intimidation of MICIVIH, throughout Haiti. MICIVIH helped provide medical assistance to Déborah Charles and Rosiane Profil. People of Raboteau reported to MICIVIH that Castera Cénafils, Saddam Hussein, and Amazan were among those responsible for the massacre. Granderson describes MICIVIH's conversation with Col. Bellony Groshommes, which was interrupted after Col. Groshommes was instructed by Col. Valmont and the high command not to speak further with MICIVIH. He describes the body he saw in the aftermath of the massacre, which was decomposing and swollen, as it had been in the ocean. "One never gets used to death, all the less so to violent death, and even less to the death of innocent people, of civilians." Granderson provides photographs MICIVIH took of the aftermath. After the massacre, he says, the people of Raboteau could not have sought justice because they were frightened and terrorized. Defense attorneys question the findings of the MICIVIH investigation.
