Joseph "Ti Jò" Georges, jounalis Radyo Solèy, ak Rolande Dorancy, avoka ak ansyen responsab Sant Refijye nan Miyami, pale sou kisa 7 fevriye reprezante, ak eritaj dat sa, ki se jou Jean-Claude Duvalier te fin tonbe. Yo eksplike evènman ki te fè l posib: lanmò Twa Flè Lespwa yo nan Gonayiv, ak aktivite militan, dyaspora ayisyen, jèn yo ak etidyan yo, ak kèk manm legliz katolik ki patisipe nan mouvman demokratik ak rezistans kont Duvalier. Yo tande plizyè oditè ki brase lide sou kesyon jistis ak lòt revandikasyon ki poko fin reyalize nan epòk demokratik la, epi yo pale sou rejim militè ak koudeta 1991 ki te menase egzistans mouvman demokratik la. Men kounye a mouvman popilè a kòmanse pouse ankò. Yo pale sou pwogrè ki fèt ak pwogrè ki pa fèt pa rapò ak libète lapawòl, epi yo fè konparezon ant Ayiti ak peyi Filipin, aprè Marcos konbe epi Aquino monte. Koripsyon se yon pwoblèm an Ayiti, menm jan ak lòt peyi, men an Ayiti yo pa gen strikti pou pouswiv koripsyon leta. Joseph "Ti Jò" Georges of Radio Soleil and Rolande Dorancy, lawyer and former director of the Haitian Refugee Center in Miami, discuss the meaning and legacy of February 7, 1986, the date that Jean-Claude Duvalier fell. They describe the events that laid the groundwork for the fall of Duvalier, including the killing of the Twa Flè Lespwa in Gonaïves, and how pro-democracy groups, the Haitian diaspora, youth and students, and some members of the Catholic Church participated in anti-Duvalier resistance. They take calls from several listeners, discussing the question of justice and other promises of February 7 that have never truly been realized or addressed in the democratic era. They also discuss the military regimes and 1991 coup d'état that threatened to crush the democratic movement. Now the grassroots movement is rising again. They also discuss progress and lack of progress in terms of freedom of speech, and compare Haiti to the Philippines after the fall of Marcos and the rise of Aquino. Corruption remains a problem in Haiti, as elsewhere, but Haiti lacks the tools to address and punish state corruption. According to one listener, those who come to power (regardless of their political affiliation) tend to abuse their power -- it is a mentality of exploitation, as the colonized become the colonizers. Hosted by Grégory Casimir.
