  • Father Edner Devalcin discusses the Fanmi Lavalas party's platform, his relationship and history with Jean-Bertrand Aristide (from their days as liberation theology priests to the present), and upcoming elections. According to Devalcin, despite the 1991 coup d'état and international community's interference in Haiti, Aristide remains a charismatic leader whose original plans and promises were realized under the presidency of René Préval. He discusses Haiti's relationship with the United States (and the ways in which Haiti is subject to political jockeying between Republicans and Democrats), and plans to publish a book for foreigners (blan) detailing the successful strategy of Fanmi Lavalas. Devalcin declares that proper elections should be held, but Fanmi Lavalas cannot decide whether or not the elections will be held. He also denies that Fanmi Lavalas encourages violence among its partisans. Listeners call in with questions and comments. Hosted by Grégory Casimir.
