  • Pierre Vernet, dean of the Faculty of Applied Linguistics, discusses language policy and sociolinguistics in Haiti. He connects questions of language to all manner of issues and divisions in society. If someone is able to speak Creole without feeling shame, that represents a cement for building a more just, equitable, and effective society. There are also problems with the way French is taught and spoken in Haiti, as well. Pierre Vernet died in the January 12, 2010 earthquake.

Il y a aussi un problème dans la manière dont le français est enseigné et parlé en Haïti. Pierre Vernet est mort dans le tremblement de terre le 12 janvier 2010.
