  • Sociologist Rachel Beauvoir-Dominique discusses her essay "L'Ancienne Cathédrale de Port-au-Prince : perspectives d'un vestige de carrefour" about the old Port-au-Prince cathedral, which was constructed in 1771 and then destroyed during the dechoukaj of the January 7, 1991 attempted coup d'état by Roger Lafontant. The essay addresses how the population of Bel-Air understood the cathedral -- their beliefs, stories, and myths -- particularly how the cathedral became associated with the spirit St. Jacques in Vodou cosmology.
