  • Antoine Eliacin discusses violent conflict in Anse d'Hainault, in the Grand'Anse. The municipal government is controlled by the Espas Konsètasyon cartel, and they are exacting violent repression on people affiliated with KOREGA and ordinary people in general. Sometimes those in power encourage vigilantism, arresting people then allowing others to beat them before handing them over to the police, so now there are many people in hiding. This is a difficult situation because Anse d'Hainault is an unusually developed commune with a robust fishing economy, one of the few rural areas where people choose to return home after receiving their education in the city, which means that working class people ("ti nèg") are enlightened and more likely to stand up for their rights. According to Eliacin, this is not really a political conflict, as many people in the municipal government who are now Espas Konsètasyon are former Fanmi Lavalas; they are political chameleons, and the conflict runs deeper. Radio Haiti's own Grand'Anse correspondent, Pierre Marcelin, was arrested and beaten in Anse d'Hainault. According to Eliacin, many people remain in hiding and the population is collectively traumatized.

Le cartel de l’Espace de Concertation contrôle la mairie et exerce une répression sur les partisans de KOREGA et de la population en général. Parfois, les autorités encouragent une prétendue justice populaire, arrêtant des gens et les faisant battre par d’autres, avant de les remettre à la police, ce qui a provoqué la fuite de nombreux résidents. La situation est d’autant plus difficile que l’Anse d’Hainault est une commune aisée, avec une économie de la pêche assez solide, une des rares régions rurales où les jeunes reviennent après leur éducation en ville. Ce qui signifie qu’ils ont appris à revendiquer leurs droits. D’après Eliacin, il ne s’agit pas de conflit politique, puisque beaucoup de gens de la mairie qui sont actuellement membres de l’Espace de Concertation étaient d’anciens Fanmi Lavalas. En fait ce sont des caméléons et le conflit est beaucoup plus profond. Même le correspondant de Radio Haïti dans la Grande Anse, Pierre Marcelin, a été arrêté et a reçu beaucoup de coups de bâton. D’après Eliacin, de nombreux résidents sont encore en fuite et la population est traumatisée.
