The press is indeed the thermometer of society, says Dupuy, but when the press gets involved in political conflicts, it is like heating up the thermometer before you use it. According to Dupuy, journalists should not be "irresponsible." Delva and Pierre describe the threats and violence that journalists face from political factions and popular organizations, citing in particular the assassination of Brignol Lindor at the hands of Dòmi nan Bwa. The lack of justice or investigation -- the climate of impunity -- encourages others to engage in violence against journalists. Pierre Emmanuel strongly criticizes the way state authorities have handled the investigation into the assassination of Jean Dominique, and Dupuy defends the government's actions.
