  • Vario Sérant and Michèle Montas participate in a colloquium at the US embassy on freedom of the press and human rights. They continue to respond to questions from audience members, concerning journalistic objectivity and personal politics, and the question of whether there is a conflict between objectivity and being an editorialist. One of Radio Haiti's correspondents, Ralph Siméon, asks if freedom of the press still exists in Haiti amid mounting threats to journalists (the assassination of Jean Dominique, the assassination of Brignol Lindor, the kidnapping of Israël Jacky Cantave). Montas replies that the threats are diffuse and unclear today, compared to the eras of Duvalier and the army, when the threats were clear. Nonetheless, freedom of the press still exists. Sérant describes the climate of intolerance and impunity that threaten the free press. They also address the question of untrained, undisciplined journalists who spread information without evidence, as well as journalists who focus on hot topics and crises while ignoring more in-depth investigations and long-term issues. Montas brings up the "crisis of values" in Haitian society that had concerned Jean Dominique in the final years of his life.

Montas mentionne la « crise des valeurs » dans la société haïtienne qui intéressait tant Jean Dominique dans les dernières années de sa vie.
