  • Vario Sérant and Michèle Montas participate in a colloquium at the US embassy on freedom of the press and human rights. Sérant gives a general overview of the subjects at hand. Montas describes the connections between human rights and the freedom of the press in Haiti over the previous twenty-five years -- how the media became the vector for human rights in Haiti. They respond to questions from audience members, including one that questions Jean Dominique's objectivity, claiming falsely that he gained access to the "halls of power" as an counselor to President Préval, which Montas refutes.
