Montas, ansanm avèk André Lafontant Joseph ak Guy Alexandre (ki te patisipe nan delegasyon sa a, tou) fè konparezon ant mizè ak eksklizyon moun nwa ki ap viv nan "townships" (bidonvil) tankou Soweto ak Alexandra, ak jan blan yo ap viv alèz nan katye boujwa Johannesburg yo.
In 1998, Michèle Montas was one of several members of a Haitian delegation to South Africa. Their visit was organized by the National Democratic Institute, with the intention of studying the post-Apartheid transition. Montas, along with André Lafontant Joseph and Guy Alexandre (who also participated in the delegation) compare the poverty and exclusion of Soweto and Alexandra townships to life in Johannesburg's wealthy white neighborhoods, and the inequalities that persist after South Africa's "miracle." Mosiuoa Patrick Lekota of the ANC describes the need for "many Mandelas" throughout South Africa. Mirlande Manigat, another member of the delegation, expresses her concerns about South Africa's future.
