  • Upon the death of Michel Roumain, Max Sam reflects on the band of young Marxist intellectuals who resisted the US occupation in the late 1920s and 1930s and launched a series of political changes in the 1930s and 1940s, including Jacques Roumain, Michel Roumain, Christian Beaulieu, Étienne Charlier, and Sam himself. He describes the strike at Damien that contributed to Louis Borno's resignation, the activities of the young intellectuals during the presidencies of Sténio Vincent, Élie Lescot, and Dumarsais Estimé, the "color question," the founding of the newspaper La Nation, the eventual divisions between the Parti Socialiste Populaire and the Parti Communiste Haïtien, and Estimé's government's contract with Standard Fruit. According to Sam, Michel Roumain was someone who stayed in the shadows and launched others to prominence.

  • À l’occasion de la mort de Michel Roumain, Max Sam parle de ces jeunes intellectuels marxistes qui ont résisté à l’occupation américaine à la fin des années 20 et dans les années 30, et qui ont initié une série de changements politiques dans les années 40 et 50. Dans ce groupe, on retrouvait Jacques Roumain, Michel Roumain, Christian Beaulieu, Étienne Charlier et Sam lui-même.
