They are protesting low teacher salaries and lack of resources. Jean Roland Chéry reports. President Jean-Bertrand Aristide urges the high school students to return home and stop demonstrating, and pledges to double public school teachers' salaries. Guerby Dujour reports. The Commission Nationale de Vérité and de Justice has launched. A curfew has been ordered in Gonaïves due to insecurity. Éric Fault of MINUHA speaks. International news includes a general strike in the Dominican Republic, a public apology by Argentine soldiers for human rights abuses during the Dirty War, repatriation of Cuban "boat people" by US authorities, a new CIA director in the US, the meeting between Boris Yeltsin and Bill Clinton in Moscow, and the death of Cuban musical legend Barbarito Díez.
