  • Gérard Duclervil, a Catholic lay worker, Protestant pastor Sem Marseille, and Dany Danache, a Vodouisant from Lakou Soukri, discuss the confluence of religion and politics at the moment of democratization. For many religious people, particularly Protestants, there has long been a belief that they should not get involved in politics. Today, however, many clergy and religious people have come to understand that "politics" is not only about government; politics is about everyday life and pressing human concerns like food and shelter. Danache describes changing attitudes toward Vodou and efforts among Vodouisants to organize themselves in the face of prejudice and misunderstanding, including the scapegoating of Vodouisants as all being Duvalierists and the dechoukaj of oungans (by Protestants and others) after the fall of Jean-Claude Duvalier. They also discuss the role of US Protestants in supporting Protestants in Haiti, the relationship between Vodou, folklore and national culture, the role of each guest's respective religious sector in the Haitian people's struggle for liberation (particularly the liberation theology/ti legliz current in the Catholic Church and the long tradition of Vodou in resistance), and other subjects.

De nombreux croyants (particulièrement les protestants) étaient persuadés depuis longtemps qu'ils ne devaient pas s'impliquer dans la vie politique. Aujourd'hui cependant, beaucoup ont compris que la « politique » ne concerne pas seulement le gouvernment mais aussi la vie de tous les jours et les problèmes quotidiens comme la nourriture et le logement. Danache explique le changement d'attitude de la société vis-à-vis des vodouisants et comment ils tentent de s'organiser pour lutter contre les préjugés et les discriminations. Ils servent notamment de bouc émissaire pour le régime de Duvalier comme l'illustre le déchoucages d'oungans (entre autres aux mains des protestants) après la chute de Jean-Claude Duvalier. Les invités abordent aussi, entre autres, comment les protestants américains soutiennent leurs homologues haïtiens, le rôle de leurs différentes confessions dans la lutte populaire pour la libération (notamment la théologie de la libération/ti legliz dans l'Église catholique et la longue histoire de résistance du vaudou) et la relation entre le vaudou, le folklore et la culture nationale.
