- Speaker:
- Konpè Filo (Pascal, Anthony)
- Date:
- 1982
- Description:
-
Li gen lespwa pou Ayiti, men li di li difisil pou jenn moun nan dyaspora angaje, lè yo fè anpil tan deyò lakay yo, lè yo pèdi yon vrè koneksyon ak Ayiti. Men dyaspora a toujou rete yon fòs pou chanjman an Ayiti.
Konpè Filo asks if Vodou and bann chanpwèl can be used in politics. The speaker talks about how Duvalier himself participated in Vodou in order to gain power and do harm. He lists several people who were killed via bann chanpwèl/kòdkout/koud flach. But these structures also provide a form of organization that can be useful and necessary in doing political work. It can be abused by Macoutes and people who wish to do evil, but it can also be used to do beneficial political work. He has hope for Haiti, but it is hard for young people in the diaspora to be politically motivated, when they have been away from home for so long and have lost some of their connection to Haiti. But the diaspora remains a powerful source for change in Haiti.
